Dog Accidentally Fires Shotgun Inside Truck at Nebraska Gas Station

A dog reportedly caused a shotgun to go off within a truck at a Nebraska gas station, resulting in injuries to a woman nearby. Local reports, citing Nebraska authorities, stated this incident took place on Saturday.

The event occurred shortly after noon as a vehicle pulled into Short Stop, a gas station and convenience store located at 2002 Avenue I, according to KNOP.

The Scottsbluff Police Department reported that the dog’s owner entered the store, leaving the dog inside the vehicle. Another passenger exited but remained near the front passenger-side door.

During this time, the dog moved around in the rear seat area, coming into contact with a shotgun stored in the vehicle. The gun had a live round in the chamber and discharged when triggered, authorities said.

According to KNOP, the blast exited the vehicle’s front passenger-side door, crossed the parking lot, and hit a woman at a nearby traffic light. She was struck in the upper part of her right arm, which was resting out the window.

Her injuries were not life-threatening. A family member took her to Regional West Medical Center for treatment.

No other injuries were reported. Initially, the incident was thought to involve a BB gun, but responding officers later discovered it involved a shotgun.

The Scottsbluff Police Department is continuing its investigation into the event.
