Anthropic, a burgeoning player in artificial intelligence, is now valued at $900 billion, surpassing OpenAI’s valuation of $730 billion. This follows a recent $65 billion funding round.
The latest financial boost was led by Greenoaks Capital, Sequoia Capital, Altimeter Capital, and Dragoneer Investment Group. This amount nearly doubles Anthropic’s previous valuation of $380 billion from three months ago.
Central to Anthropic’s appeal is its updated AI model, Claude Opus 4.8. This model excels at vibecoding, which entails AI writing code based on conversational English prompts. Such advancements have significantly increased the company’s income, with the revenue run rate reaching $47 billion this month.
Hundreds of businesses have adopted Anthropic’s software since November, reflecting its strength in AI-driven coding solutions. Krishna Rao, the company’s CFO, noted that the funding will support growing demand and allow Claude to reach more workspaces.
Previously, Anthropic was involved in discussions with the Pentagon concerning AI’s role in warfare. Additionally, their AI model, Mythos, has shown effectiveness in identifying software vulnerabilities. Anthropic also provided guidance to Pope Leo XIV on a papal encyclical addressing AI’s societal impact.
