President Donald Trump, aged 79, has been declared in “excellent health” following a medical examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. His physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, reported that Trump is “fully fit” to continue serving in his role as commander in chief. The examination included a CT scan, heart imaging, and cancer screenings conducted by a team of 22 specialists.
The president stated that his check-up went “PERFECTLY” after spending three hours at the medical center. Weighing in at 238 pounds (108 kilograms), Trump saw an increase of 14 pounds (6 kg) since his last medical check-up in April 2025. Physicians advised him on diet, exercise, and weight management while affirming that his cognitive and physical health remains strong.
Standing at 6 feet, 3 inches (1.9 meters), Trump has a body mass index (BMI) of 29.7, close to the obesity threshold of 30 as defined by medical standards. The report noted minor bruising on his hands due to frequent handshakes, a common effect of aspirin therapy. Doctors recommended transitioning to a low-dose aspirin.
Previously diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, which is typical in older adults, Trump showed “improvement from last year” regarding slight lower leg swelling. Dr. Barbabella commented that Trump’s tight daily schedule, which involves numerous high-level engagements and regular physical activities, supports his well-being.
The medical team also administered the Montreal Cognitive Assessment to evaluate potential dementia. Trump scored a perfect 30, replicating his scores from 2018 and the prior year. His cholesterol readings have markedly improved, with current total cholesterol at 143, down from 223 in 2018, thanks to medications like rosuvastatin and ezetimibe aiding his cholesterol management.
This exam marked Trump’s fourth publicly disclosed health evaluation since resuming office for a second tenure. The results come amid his efforts to project vigor leading up to the midterm elections. While past administrations selectively shared presidential health details, no legislation mandates full medical disclosure, and transparency has varied.
As Trump approaches 80, he remains the oldest U.S. president to be elected. His predecessor, Joe Biden, exited the 2024 presidential race at age 82 amid age-related concerns. Trump strives to mitigate public worries about his age and stamina, often joking about his love for fast food and minimal exercise outside of golf. He commonly appears with makeup covering hand bruises, and is occasionally photographed with swollen lower limbs. Despite such concerns, Trump claims to feel as vigorous as he did five decades ago.
