1 month ago 0

A United Airlines flight en route to Minneapolis, Minnesota, made an emergency landing in Madison, Wisconsin, on Friday. This occurred after a passenger allegedly attempted to force entry into the cockpit, based on air traffic control audio.

The flight departed from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport around 8 p.m. CDT and safely landed at Madison’s Dane County Regional Airport approximately 90 minutes later. United Airlines issued a statement confirming the emergency landing to address security concerns relating to the unruly passenger.

The details of the specific security concern remain undisclosed. However, audio from air traffic control at Dane County Regional Airport, as reviewed by WISN, indicated that the passenger made multiple attempts to breach the cockpit. I do not believe they ever cuffed him, but they were able to finally get control of him after multiple attempts to try to breach the cockpit, a crew member stated in the audio. I believe at this point he is seated in a seat and flanked with law enforcement officers on either side.

Further scanner audio from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, obtained by Fox News Digital, provided additional insights. We’re getting word that there is five off-duty law enforcement on the plane that have the individual detained, a sheriff’s office member shared.

Authorities removed the passenger from the plane around 10:30 p.m. CDT, as reported by communications from the sheriff’s office.

The FBI, aware of the incident, released a statement confirming that on May 29, 2026, a commercial flight diverting from Chicago to Minneapolis was directed to Dane County Regional Airport. The FBI Milwaukee’s Madison Resident Agency, together with local law enforcement, responded promptly. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office detained a subject, allowing the remaining passengers to continue their flight.

Further inquiries were made to the Madison Police Department, Dane County Sheriff’s Office, TSA, the FBI, and the Dane County Regional Airport for additional information.
