New exhibitions, grand reopenings, and block parties are bringing a vibrant, patriotic atmosphere to the area surrounding the National Mall.
Over the past few months, cultural institutions have ramped up exhibits and activities in anticipation of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The celebrations, which began in spring, include new American-themed exhibitions at Glenstone and the National Gallery of Art. Additionally, Mount Vernon is hosting new Revolutionary War-themed activities. These events are ongoing through 2026.
The weeks between Memorial Day and July 4 feature a fresh lineup of events designed to maximize patriotic spirit. This includes a parade of tall ships, a downtown block party, and opportunities to view some of the nation’s iconic treasures in one place. These activities offer a chance to celebrate the American Experiment.
Among the exhibits at the Smithsonian, ‘American Aspirations’ showcases some of the institution’s most valued objects. This includes the mahogany desk that Thomas Jefferson used to draft the Declaration of Independence.
