A young Chinese girl, Lian Yunzhi, has shattered the women’s world record for solving a 3×3 Rubik’s Cube, achieving this remarkable feat in little over four seconds. This achievement was reported by state media on Tuesday.
Lian, at only six years old, managed to break the women’s 3×3 average world record twice within three days. She took part in two World Cube Association certified competitions held in Wuhan and Guangzhou, as detailed by state broadcaster CCTV on Monday. Her average solving times were 4.52 and 4.27 seconds, across five recorded solves.

A CCTV video shows the young girl expertly twisting the Rubik’s Cube while wearing a red gingham bow. After completing the solve, she celebrated by clapping her hands and pumping her fist in the air.
Known by the nickname “Zhizhi,” Lian was first introduced to the Rubik’s Cube through an extracurricular class. Her mother, Lin Yangxi, shared with local media, as reported by AFP, that this activity began alongside dance and music lessons.
Lin explained that she “gradually realized” the value of cubing for enhancing a child’s general abilities, which led her to encourage her daughter to focus more on it. Lian has now mastered over 1,300 Rubik’s Cube solving algorithms and practices diligently for two to three hours each day.

Lin highlighted the benefits of solving a Rubik’s Cube, citing increases in focus, memory, logical thinking, and spatial awareness, alongside cultivating a positive mindset towards both winning and losing. The activity isn’t about rote memorization of formulas, Lin added, but involves employing logical reasoning to develop optimal solutions.
