A powerful video featuring an airport worker and military veteran in California has driven a wave of generosity from strangers, who have contributed over $135,000 to help with the man’s medical expenses and living costs.

The video, captured at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, gained significant attention on TikTok, amassing nearly 6 million views. It showcased the worker, identified as James Blair, struggling to walk due to pain, sparking widespread support online.

Passenger Lacinda Thackeray recorded the footage when she saw Blair in visible discomfort. She expressed her sympathy, stating, “Watching him work so hard — he could barely move — truly broke my heart.” Thackeray hopes to find a way to help Blair retire comfortably.

James Blair, a U.S. Navy veteran with a decade of experience as an aircraft mechanic, had been working for years refueling planes. His demanding jobs over the years have significantly impacted his health, particularly affecting his knees, as he shared with CBS News. Despite chronic pain, Blair continues to work and care for his 90-year-old mother, who is under hospice care.

Viewers of the video began fundraising efforts, surpassing $135,000 and aiming for a target of $200,000. Blair described the overwhelming response as life-changing, relieving some of the financial pressures associated with his health issues.

The fundraiser elicited a flood of supportive comments, both from those familiar with Blair and from strangers moved by his situation. Many described him as diligent and selfless, dedicating years to his work and to assisting others.

The video has especially highlighted Blair’s military service, emphasizing that veterans deserve better recognition and support. Users celebrated the fundraising success, with one noting, “This is how we honor our veterans.”
