President Donald Trump plans to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals in New York City. Fox News’ Kayleigh McEnany shared this update, noting Trump’s lifelong support for the Knicks. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver personally invited him, emphasizing common interests.
During his presidency, Trump attended several major sporting events. He also intends to host a UFC fight at the White House on June 14.
On another front, discussions about a potential salary cap in Major League Baseball (MLB) have gained attention. Trump expressed strong support for a salary cap. In an interview with OutKick’s Dan Zaksheske aboard Air Force One, Trump stated, “If you don’t have a salary cap, you don’t have a sport.” He referenced salary caps in other major leagues like the NFL, NHL, and NBA, highlighting MLB as the only exception.
Trump criticized MLB’s delay in adopting a salary cap. He linked this issue to his administration’s efforts on Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) policies in college sports. He warned of schools losing significant revenue, saying, “You can’t have that. Nobody can afford that.”
The MLB and MLB Players Association (MLBPA) have started collective bargaining talks. The league suggested a salary cap of $245.3 million for 2027. This proposal contrasts sharply with the current highest Opening Day payroll of $415.2 million by the Los Angeles Dodgers and the lowest at $81.8 million by the Miami Marlins.
As negotiations progress, these discussions will play a crucial role in shaping the future of MLB.
