Honda is initiating a recall for more than 800,000 vehicles in response to potential failures of rear suspension components. Such failures could result in drivers losing control, heightening the risk of crashes and injuries.
The recall affects specific models: 2016-2022 Honda Pilot, 2017-2023 Ridgeline, 2019-2023 Passport, and 2014-2020 Acura MDX. In total, 880,514 vehicles are impacted, specifically those sold in regions including Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The issue arises from the rear subframe, which can experience corrosion at suspension mounting points, potentially leading to rear suspension failure. Honda estimates that the defect is present in about 1% of the vehicles listed.
Importantly, Honda noted there have been no warranty claims and no reports of injuries or fatalities linked to this defect. To address the problem, Honda and Acura dealers will inspect the rear subframe. They will either install a reinforcement kit, repair, or replace subframe components as required, all at no cost to the vehicle owners.
Owner notification letters are planned to be sent by July 7. The recall is associated with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration campaign number 26V367000. Honda’s internal codes for the recall are AOU and AOT. Starting June 10, Vehicle Identification Numbers related to this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov.
