The New York Knicks staged a stunning comeback against the San Antonio Spurs, overturning a 29-point deficit to make history in the NBA Finals. After a halftime performance by the Wu-Tang Clan, the Knicks outscored the Spurs by 28 points, electrifying the crowd at Madison Square Garden.
Initially, the Spurs held all the momentum. Knicks fans had few reasons to celebrate. But the tide turned dramatically, leading to one of the most remarkable collapses in sports history.
San Antonio’s forward, Victor Wembanyama, faced a hostile crowd, with fans booing him throughout the game. Despite turning a defensive foul against him into an offensive foul on a Knicks player, the boos persisted. After a flagrant foul called on Mitchell Robinson, Wembanyama seemed to thrive on the interaction, taunting the crowd with comments like “I’m in your head!”
However, the Spurs only managed to score 30 points in the second half. They committed nine turnovers in the crucial final minutes, allowing their 20-point lead to evaporate. OG Anunoby scored a decisive basket, securing the win for the Knicks in the closing seconds.
After the game, Spurs coach Mitch Johnson expressed disappointment. “We lost sight of what built our lead,” he said. “Our early aggression faded, and the Knicks capitalized. We needed a few more determined plays to secure the win.”
Wembanyama echoed the frustration. “It feels like we worked hard only to see our efforts slip away. It’s a painful experience.” With three games now necessary to turn the series in their favor, Wembanyama stressed the need to regroup. “We must choose the right path, focus on strengthening and unity, and avoid despair.”
As the Knicks celebrated their 107-106 victory, the Spurs faced the challenge of rallying to win the series. As Wembanyama stated, “Holding each other accountable and staying united is vital. This setback will make us stronger.”
