The 2026 FIFA World Cup has begun, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic is already making bold predictions. On FOX Sports’ opening broadcast, the renowned striker, now debuting as a studio analyst, shared his thoughts on Group L.
When asked which group stood out to him, Ibrahimovic quickly pointed to Group L. He highlighted the favorites and shared his opinion on the team he considered the weakest link. We have England. Is it coming home? We’ll see. We have Croatia. I have some roots from Croatia as well, so I’m supporting them in this tournament. We have Ghana. Big talent, let’s see what they bring. We have Panama. Unfortunately, in this group, I think they will be the punching bag,
Ibrahimovic remarked.
He elaborated, England and Croatia will fight for the top spot, and Ghana might disturb them and take some points. But I don’t see Panama,
he added.
Group L Dynamics
Group L features England, ranked No. 4 by FIFA, Croatia at No. 11, Ghana at No. 73, and Panama at No. 34. England and Croatia are seen as the main contenders, while Ghana could pose challenges by potentially claiming crucial points. Panama, however, is seen as less of a threat.
Thomas Tuchel’s England will face Croatia on June 17 in Arlington, Texas. This match is a repeat of the 2018 semifinal where Croatia won in extra time. Ibrahimovic views this encounter as pivotal in determining the group’s outcome.
Ghana’s recent performances include a 5-1 loss to Austria in March and a 2-0 defeat by Mexico in May. Panama, on the other hand, suffered a 6-2 defeat to Brazil in May, and narrowly won 4-2 against the Dominican Republic, ranked 144th by FIFA, on June 3.
Ibrahimovic’s Broadcasting Debut
With an impressive career that includes over 560 goals and 34 major trophies, Zlatan Ibrahimovic retired in 2023. As Sweden’s top scorer with 62 goals, he now brings his vibrant style to broadcasting for FOX Sports.
