The family of Austin Metcalf, a teenager killed in Texas, continues to face harassment and threats over a year after his murder. Jeff Metcalf, Austin’s father, has shared that he and his family receive constant threatening messages following the conviction and sentencing of Karmelo Anthony, the convicted killer.
“I get vile, disgusting messages,” Jeff Metcalf told Fox News Digital, explaining the emotional and physical toll on him and his family. The threats have also targeted Austin’s twin brother, Hunter, with incidents occurring even within the courthouse.
“Someone threatened Hunter’s life when we were in the courthouse,” Metcalf said.
The Frisco Police Department confirmed the situation, stating that numerous online threats against the family are under investigation. While no arrests have been made, increased patrols have been deployed to ensure the safety of the Metcalf family and the local community.
The emotional strain is not limited to the immediate family. Austin’s friends, who were present at the incident, face trauma and confrontations. Jeff Metcalf emphasized the ongoing trauma among the teenagers who witnessed the murder.
Discussing the events that unfolded during the court proceedings, Metcalf highlighted a need for public access to the surveillance video to dispel false narratives circulating online. He believes the footage would clarify the sequence of events leading to his son’s death.
The case also draws attention due to fundraising efforts for Anthony’s family. Significant amounts were raised through online platforms, leading to public scrutiny about the use and handling of these funds.
“People are making money off my dead son,” Metcalf commented, frustrated by others profiting from the tragedy.
Throughout the ordeal, Metcalf expressed immense pride in his surviving son, Hunter, who displayed maturity and composure during the trial. Reflecting on Hunter’s testimony, Metcalf recounted a conversation acknowledging his son’s growth during this challenging time.
“When you walked up to that jury stand, you were a boy. What I saw when you walked away was a man,” Metcalf shared with Hunter.
The Metcalf family’s suffering continues, as does their fight for justice and peace amidst ongoing threats and public debate.
