On Tuesday, a shooting at ChristianaCare Wilmington Hospital in Delaware resulted in one death and one injury. The shooter remains at large, according to Wilmington Police. The incident was reported at 3:30 p.m.
Wilmington Police Chief Wilfredo Campos addressed the media, stating that officers discovered both victims but the shooter was not found. Details about the victims were withheld to respect their families’ privacy. Currently, there is no description of the suspect or any hint of a motive.
We are actively working to identify and locate him, Campos said, emphasizing the commitment of the officers to bring the suspect to justice.
The aftermath saw law enforcement personnel gathered outside the hospital. During the incident, workers at the hospital had to barricade themselves in rooms while the police conducted a search of the premises. Mayor John Carney expressed sorrow over the day’s events, noting it was a difficult day for Wilmington.
Governor Matt Meyer noted his wife, Dr. Lauren Meyer, was present at the hospital for work when the attack occurred. He praised the hospital staff as heroes for their life-saving efforts. U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt from Delaware was briefed on the situation and expressed gratitude for the rapid law enforcement response while hoping for more information.
Wilmington is Delaware’s largest city with over 73,000 residents. It is known as the “corporate capital of America” due to many large corporations having their legal addresses there.
