2 weeks ago 0

A popular hangout spot on South Carolina’s Congaree River became the scene of chaos when a large brawl erupted. The incident occurred at the 601 Sand Bar on June 6, with video footage capturing dozens of people as they engaged in physical fights. The altercation attracted a significant crowd, adding to the unruly atmosphere.

Videos from the event show multiple fights breaking out at once, with onlookers gathered around the scene. In various clips, individuals are seen throwing punches, wrestling, and engaging in close combat in knee-deep water. Bystanders can be heard shouting and capturing the events on their phones.

The violent episode resulted in six arrests and a continuing investigation by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities reported more than 20 people involved in the melee, with at least three individuals sustaining injuries. These ranged from swollen eyes to head injuries.

“The injuries were severe,” said Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the brawl, but Sheriff Summers stated that alcohol played a role, with several cases of underage drinking identified. Summers emphasized the dangers of combining alcohol with the surrounding environment, noting that such behavior can result in severe consequences.

The altercation took place during the annual Sparkleberry Duck Run, an event popular with boaters and outdoor enthusiasts on the Congaree River. Despite its festive nature, the event was marred by the violence that unfolded at the sandbar.

Among those arrested in connection to the fight are Brendan Bonds, Hunter Dalzell, Lucas Scott, Edward Scott, Austin Mizzell, and Taylor Knudson. They face various charges related to assault and public disorder. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the matter and expects further arrests as more evidence is reviewed.

Sheriff Summers urged witnesses and individuals with relevant information to assist in the investigation. He reassured the public that authorities will not tolerate such disorderly conduct.
