Chicago Cubs: Ballesteros Optioned, Dean Recalled in Game Against Blue Jays

The 22-year-old had learned that he would be sent to the minors, and outfielder Justin Dean would take his roster spot. Mota explained that this decision was not tied to performance issues. Instead, it was a strategic move aimed at giving Ballesteros regular playing time, which would benefit his development.

Ballesteros had been a strong presence at the start of the season. He was hitting .400 after an impressive game on April 24. However, his performance declined to .139 in subsequent games. This shift in performance, combined with the Cubs’ current lineup strategy, made the decision to move him to the minors logical. Manager Craig Counsell stated that Ballesteros needed more experience catching, which he would gain in Triple-A.

Meanwhile, the Cubs showcased their offensive strength in a dominating 16-2 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays at Wrigley Field.
