Teen Aggressors Linked to Christchurch Shooter
Two teenagers, Cain Clark, 17, and Caleb Vazquez, 18, launched a deadly attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego, leaving three victims before taking their own lives. They allegedly identified themselves as the “Sons of Tarrant,” nodding to Brenton Tarrant, a notorious white supremacist linked to the Christchurch, New Zealand attacks in 2019.
According to authorities, the teens connected online, where they embraced extremist ideologies rooted in white supremacy. The two were inspired by Tarrant’s actions, who killed 51 people during his mosque attacks.
Alleged Manifesto and Ideology
Their manifesto, titled “The New Crusade: Sons of Tarrant,” is under investigation for ties to the suspects.
The document, comprising 75 pages, allegedly includes radicalized views targeting Muslims, Jews, LGBTQ+ individuals, Black people, women, and political spectrums both left and right. They professed that Tarrant was their greatest inspiration and outlined a blueprint for filming violent acts for online broadcast, similar to Monday’s attack.
Vazquez’s section in the manifesto not only commemorates Adolf Hitler but also glorifies multiple mass shooters. Although “Sons of Tarrant” doesn’t represent a recognized group, it signifies allegiance to a perilous ideology that advocates for violence and chaos.
Profile: Brenton Tarrant
Brenton Tarrant orchestrated mass shootings at Christchurch mosques on March 15, 2019, livestreaming part of his attacks. He faced justice in 2020, pleading guilty to numerous charges and receiving a life sentence without parole. His actions have subsequently inspired similar extremists worldwide.
Victims and Acts of Valor
The attack on Monday claimed the lives of three men: Amin Abdullah, Mansour Kaziha, and Nadir Awad. These individuals actively worked to hinder the gunmen’s progress and protect the mosque’s occupants, particularly 140 children attending classes.
San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl recounted how Abdullah bravely confronted the attackers, initiating defensive measures and engaging them in a critical gun battle. Although severely wounded, Abdullah’s perseverance enabled the lockdown, ultimately sparing many lives.
Kaziha and Awad played pivotal roles in drawing the shooters away from the mosque, thereby sacrificing themselves to avert further casualties. Imam Taha Hassane praised these men for their selfless actions and dedication to their community.
Each victim’s legacy stands as a testament to courage and sacrifice amid tragedy. Kaziha, highly involved in mosque affairs, and Awad, a local resident dedicated to protecting his community, are remembered for their heroic deeds during this horrific event.
