President Trump Endorses Both Candidates in South Carolina Republican Runoff

1 week ago 0

President Trump’s endorsement is a significant factor in Republican races, particularly for Senate and House primaries. Historically, it’s a highly sought-after advantage for candidates.

In an unusual move, on Friday, President Trump decided to endorse both candidates in the South Carolina Republican primary runoff for governor. Initially, he supported Pamela Evette, the state’s lieutenant governor, in May. However, this was insufficient to prevent a runoff.

President Trump, who monitors his political influence closely, announced on Truth Social that he was extending his endorsement to Ms. Evette’s opponent, Alan Wilson, the state’s attorney general for 15 years. In his post, Trump wrote, “I can’t hurt one of them by only Endorsing the other, so, therefore, I am going to Endorse, for Governor of South Carolina, both Pam Evette and Alan Wilson!” He further remarked, “With either one you can’t go wrong.”

Moments following Mr. Trump’s social media post, Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina endorsed Mr. Wilson. This added to the momentum behind Wilson’s campaign. Mr. Wilson had already been leading Ms. Evette in several pre-runoff polls, and the president’s dual endorsement might further solidify his lead.
