The resolution of the intense legal battle between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively started with an unanticipated phone call on a Friday night. Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, shared with Fox News Digital that he received a surprise call from the opposing legal team proposing mediation. This led to a settlement that concluded the highly publicized dispute.
Freedman emphasized the importance of his clients being able to discuss court proceedings that dismissed most of the accusations against them. He pointed out that of the 15 claims Lively initially filed, two were dropped voluntarily and ten were dismissed by the court. These claims included serious allegations such as sexual harassment and defamation, which were significant victories for his clients.
Baldoni and Lively began their legal clash after working together on the film adaptation of ‘It Ends With Us.’ Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and filed a lawsuit in December 2024. The lawsuit detailed charges against Baldoni and producer Jamey Heath, which included harassment, emotional distress, and negligence, among others.
Baldoni countered with a $400 million defamation lawsuit, claiming Lively’s accusations were false. The court later dismissed the defamation lawsuit. Freedman argued the allegations unfairly damaged Baldoni’s public image before the case’s conclusion.
‘The entire world, or at least those who paid attention, judged Justin and others involved as horrible people,’ Freedman said. ‘That’s why it was crucial to challenge that narrative and show that there was no misconduct or smear campaign.’
This need to alter public perception affected their legal strategy. Freedman’s team opted to publicly release documents, including text messages and emails, which he claimed presented another side of the story.
The nearly two-year legal struggle concluded with Lively and Baldoni reaching a comprehensive settlement, weeks before the trial. Both agreed to drop their claims, although Lively sought attorney fees and additional compensation. The court granted her recovery of legal fees but denied further damages.
The ordeal took an emotional toll on Baldoni and his team. Freedman noted, ‘It felt like a morgue,’ reflecting on the atmosphere at Baldoni’s office after the allegations became public. The dispute underscored challenges within Hollywood, highlighting the difficulty of contesting individuals with powerful industry connections.
Freedman expressed hope that Baldoni would eventually share his perspective on the conflict. The impact of Baldoni’s firsthand account could offer a deeper understanding of the experience.
