The incident remains under investigation, according to NPS. The agency released the statement after multiple people reported on social media having witnessed the incident. One Reddit user claimed they were nearby when they heard people screaming.
The user described friends being dragged by the current at the top of Nevada’s fall. The girl was saved, but another person was swept by the current over the fall.

The girl was handed a branch for rescue, but the other person couldn’t attach to anything and went with the current to the fall. The witness expressed horror at the scene, stating it was distressing to see the girl rescued with her friends in tears.
A helicopter reportedly arrived about an hour after the incident and appeared to search the area. Rescue hikers later arrived with equipment.
Nevada Fall is notorious for its steep, slippery conditions and strong currents along a 600-foot descent. Many witnesses emphasized the unpredictability and danger of the granite surface and currents.
Another Reddit user underscored the dangers, noting the fatalities risk, even with safety gear like life jackets. The individual expressed reluctance to visit the area again during peak water flows, citing the stress of witnessing people engaging in risky behavior on slick rocks and flowing waters.
