NATO Secretary General Backs Trump’s Approach on Iran

7 days ago 0

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte expressed support for President Donald Trump’s strategy in Iran, calling it essential for the safety of NATO allies. He addressed the president’s frustration over what he perceives as insufficient support from NATO members.

Rutte stated on “Special Report,” “I think the president is doing exactly what is needed, degrading Iran’s nuclear capability.” He highlighted the risks if Iran obtained nuclear weapons, labeling Iran as an exporter of chaos and terrorism. Such a scenario, he argued, would be disastrous for both the region and the world.

The numbers that we spend are so crazy on NATO, and they weren’t there for us, President Trump mentioned earlier. He expressed dissatisfaction with the financial burden the U.S. bears in NATO, while allies appear reluctant to assist on smaller matters.

Rutte acknowledged Trump’s disappointment but pointed out that NATO allies have supported the U.S. militarily during conflicts with Iran. He emphasized that allies have provided support, such as making bases available for U.S. operations and helping to defend the Strait of Hormuz.

“Massive European allies are pre-positioning their assets close to the Strait,” Rutte explained, referring to demining efforts and other forms of assistance.

Rutte credited Trump with strengthening NATO and encouraging member countries to invest more in their defense. He noted the significant increase in defense spending and production within NATO countries.

When it comes to ramping up defense spending, [Trump] is really encouraging everyone to do that, and the results are there, Rutte said, endorsing Trump’s actions in Iran and citing a “historic peace agreement.”

The NATO head is scheduled to meet with Trump soon and reiterated that Trump’s leadership is vital for the security of the alliance and the United States.
