Comedian Larry David expressed his disapproval of President Donald Trump’s celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary with a UFC fight event at the White House. David’s comments, shared during an interview with Variety, reveal his feelings of embarrassment regarding the event.
“It was a travesty,” David stated, referring to the UFC fight organized by Trump. “What else can you say about it?” The 78-year-old comedian elaborated on his sense of unpatriotism in light of the spectacle. He mentioned feeling ashamed to be an American.
The remarks were made during the premiere of David’s new HBO series, “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.” This show, set to debut on June 26, includes sketch comedy pieces satirizing significant moments in U.S. history. The series features numerous celebrity guests such as Jerry Seinfeld, Vince Vaughn, Rita Wilson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Barack Obama.
David shared that Obama’s production company, Higher Ground, helped produce the series. The former president, according to David, is skilled at ad-libbing, contributing positively to the show.
The UFC Freedom 250 fight served as a celebration of Trump’s 80th birthday. It attracted an audience of approximately 4,300, including 1,200 active-duty service members. The event featured the Marine Band’s rendition of the national anthem alongside Zac Brown and concluded with a flyover by the Navy’s Blue Angels and Air Force Thunderbirds.
Following the event, Trump described it as an unprecedented spectacle in sports, speaking to reporters before heading to the G7 summit in France. Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment. Julia Bonavita, a media and culture writer for Fox News Digital, covered the story.
