White House Uses Taylor Swift Theme for Trump Graphic

3 hours ago 0

The White House recently sparked reactions with an Instagram post featuring an “America’s Eras Tour” graphic, centered on President Donald Trump. This post took inspiration from Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour posters and was shared in the lead-up to Independence Day.

This graphic included historical images of Trump with the caption, “It’s been a long time coming,” a notable Swift lyric. This choice came despite past comments from Trump about Swift, including a 2024 remark declaring, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

Users online observed that the White House seemed to use Swift’s branding even though Trump has previously criticized her. Screenshots of replies highlighted his earlier statements about Swift. Others humorously noted that the administration appeared to have embraced its “Eras” phase.

Some responses viewed the post as ironic, considering Trump’s contentious history with Swift. Despite public endorsements of Democratic politicians by Swift, their early interactions in 2012 showed a different tone. Trump had previously thanked Swift for a picture via social media, saying she was fantastic.

In 2018, Swift’s support for a Democratic candidate led to Trump expressing his diminished appreciation for her music. Approaching the 2024 election, Trump accused Swift of benefiting financially from him, while also expressing a favorable opinion of her then-boyfriend, Travis Kelce, an NFL star.

A forthcoming book, Apprentice in Wonderland, records Trump describing Swift as “very beautiful,” but also as politically liberal, implying she likely did not support him. The book notes his past difficulty reconciling her political stance with her country music beginnings.

After a 2024 debate where Swift backed Kamala Harris, Trump remarked on Swift’s liberalism on Fox & Friends, predicting she’d face a negative market response for her political standing. A few days later, a viral post from him reiterated his strong feelings against her.

Nonetheless, Trump’s comments about Swift have shown moments of civility, like when he wished Swift and Kelce well in their relationship.

The White House’s post coincided with media attention on Swift and Kelce’s reported wedding plans. However, the White House provided no additional comments when contacted by Newsweek.

Swift’s Views on Trump

Swift has openly critiqued Trump. After largely abstaining from political discourse, she supported Democratic candidates during the 2018 midterms, and subsequently Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020.

During her Miss Americana documentary, Swift mentioned feeling a strong need to politically engage publicly, emphasizing the significance of being on “the right side of history.” In 2020, she directly challenged Trump on social media amid national protests, foretelling a political shift during the election.

In 2024, Swift’s endorsement further fueled her opposition to Trump. Her playful signing off as “Childless Cat Lady” referenced previous disparaging remarks from a Republican candidate.

Whether or not the White House intended a direct tribute to Taylor Swift or a broader nod to historical eras in America, the ongoing Trump-Swift dynamic remains notable, even years after Trump’s public denouncement.
