Mt. Olive Pickle Company Withdraws from Fair Over Confederate Flag

2 hours ago 0

Mt. Olive Pickle Company decided to exit the Great American State Fair held in Washington, D.C., due to the inclusion of a Confederate flag in an exhibit. The company, a representative of the North Carolina exhibit, expressed its disappointment in a statement through Nexstar’s WNCT.

The company highlighted its pride in its North Carolina heritage and agreed to partake in a showcase meant to highlight the state’s strengths. However, after discovering the Confederate flag image in a video at the exhibit, Mt. Olive decided to withdraw from the fair.

Our company stands on values of human dignity, opportunity, and freedom,” the company emphasized in its statement.

Alongside Mt. Olive, other North Carolina businesses were also represented at the fair despite initial budgetary constraints faced by the state itself. Companies within the state stepped up to be present at the event.

The exhibit still showcases other local companies and activities. Operation Helo participates to demonstrate its rapid disaster response services. Visitors can also enjoy taking photos with a NASCAR stock car from Richard Childress Racing.

The Great American State Fair spans 16 days and continues until July 10.
