Jeffery Simmons Expresses Jealousy Over Mike Vrabel’s Early Success with Patriots

Mike Vrabel, former head coach of the Tennessee Titans, led his team to the playoffs three times without advancing to the Super Bowl. The Titans’ best performance under Vrabel was reaching the AFC Championship Game in 2019, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 35-24.

However, Vrabel found immediate success with the New England Patriots, guiding them to a Super Bowl appearance in his first season. Despite the strong showing, the Patriots lost to their opponent with a score of 29-13 in February.

During a recent appearance on Terron Armstead’s program, “The Set,” Titans All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons expressed his envy towards Vrabel’s accomplishments with New England. Simmons shared his surprise at Vrabel’s swift success and reflected on his experiences with the Titans.

“Was I surprised? Man, I think we all would be surprised if this guy, first year in New England, they go straight to the Super Bowl. First off, I’m jealous as hell. Like what? … I was just with you four years, and you couldn’t get me to the Super Bowl?”

Vrabel’s achievements in New England were aided by a strong defense and an MVP-caliber quarterback, Drake Maye, leading the offense. In contrast, the Titans parted ways with Vrabel and have endured two consecutive 3-14 seasons.

Looking ahead, the Titans hope that new head coach Robert Saleh can reverse the team’s fortunes. Amid offseason discussions, Vrabel faced scrutiny over his leadership abilities and maintaining locker room relationships. However, Simmons defended Vrabel’s knack for fostering connections with players.

“One of the things when you build that relationship off the football field … that’s the biggest thing with Vrabel, man,” Simmons stated. “And I can feel this, it’s the same with Saleh.”

“When you can build a relationship with your players off the football field, they going to play as hard as they can for you. That’s what Vrabel brings, bro.”

Vrabel aims to bring this relationship-building ethos into the upcoming training camp following a challenging spring season.
