America reaches its 250th anniversary, aligning with a personal landmark: 50 years on U.S. soil. My departure from the Soviet Union occurred with my divorced mother and widowed grandmother in December 1975. Initial stops included Vienna and Rome, paving the way to our arrival in Los Angeles on April 28, 1976, right before bicentennial festivities. At six years old, the journey unfolded.
Now, I’ve experienced 20% of America’s journey firsthand.
