Stefon Diggs: Free Agent Still Confident in His Abilities

Stefon Diggs, formerly with the New England Patriots, no longer holds the All-Pro status he enjoyed from 2018 to 2023. Nevertheless, Diggs is convinced he remains a valuable asset as a wide receiver. Recently released by the Patriots after the Super Bowl, the 32-year-old is a free agent still confident in his capabilities.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Diggs expressed his belief that any team signing him would gain the best WR2 in the NFL. ‘My opinion, I can compete with anybody,’ Diggs stated. ‘Take those [top wide receivers] as your 1s, right? You can’t name a No. 2 better than me.’

‘There’s not a No. 2 on a team — let’s presumably give people the credit and just say, ‘OK, you want to take the No. 1 spot away, name your No. 2 receiver right now, and tell me how much he makes.’ Then my last question is: Is he better than me?’

Last year, Diggs achieved 85 catches, accumulating 1,013 yards and securing four touchdowns. This marked his seventh season reaching over 1,000 yards and having 80 or more catches.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Diggs is attracting attention just weeks before training camp. ‘At least five teams have been checking in on Diggs nearly two weeks out from camps,’ Fowler noted. ‘Diggs produced 1,000 yards in New England coming off an ACL tear and playing about 55% of the snaps. He feels like he can be even better due to offseason training with no injury concern.’

Fowler did not specify which teams are interested, but several possible destinations include the Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants, and Washington Commanders. The Commanders have shown the most interest since the draft.

Washington, having parted ways with Deebo Samuel, seeks a strong complement to Terry McLaurin. Presently, the Commanders have Dyami Brown, Treylon Burks, and rookie third-round pick Antonio Williams competing for the WR2 position.
