Controversial License Plate Sparks Debate for Florida Senior

Pompano Beach resident Nancy Dello Stritto was taken aback when she received a new license plate with a potentially offensive message as part of her vehicle registration renewal. The plate read “SQZ A55,” which can be read as a crude phrase. At nearly 77, Dello Stritto expressed her frustration to CBS News Miami, questioning how the plate passed inspection.

The unexpected license plate has stirred discussions among her family and the retirement community. While Dello Stritto finds the configuration displeasing, her sons and their friends have urged her to keep the plate. The voting among acquaintances stands at 16-1 in favor of retaining it.

Florida license plates are typically manufactured in a North Florida state prison before being distributed. Dello Stritto’s plate came from the Broward County Property Tax Collector’s office. An office manager confirmed that they offer free replacements for plates considered offensive at their Plantation location.

Despite her initial reaction, Dello Stritto has decided to keep the plate for now but intends to inform the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. With a sense of humor, she remarked that perhaps it was meant to be, adding she might receive some honks on the road.
