The recent private meeting between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and King Charles has remained highly secretive. Reports have indicated that even Prince William and Kate Middleton were unaware of the gathering.
Secrecy Surrounding Meeting with the King
According to Vanity Fair royal correspondent Katie Nicholl, the meeting on July 10 was kept from many, including the Prince and Princess of Wales. The couple met with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House.
“Not even the Prince and Princess of Wales were made aware that the meeting was taking place,” Nicholl reported.
The meeting was confirmed by palace aides only after the Sussexes had departed.
King Charles’ Discreet Approach
Royal expert Kinsey Schofield commented that the meeting was King Charles managing his relationship with Harry. Prince William is focused on the monarchy’s future, while Charles can make personal decisions.
“Charles can afford to make emotional decisions that William probably cannot,” Schofield noted.
The king’s focus was reportedly on reconciling with his son and meeting his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Camilla’s Support
Queen Camilla provided support during the meeting, as she has been a source of strength for Charles throughout the tension with Harry. She joined the meeting quite unexpectedly, leaving her estate to be there.
“She dropped everything and headed over to Highgrove,” a source shared.
William’s Perspective
Despite the private nature of the meeting, sources say Prince William remains uninvolved in reconciliation efforts with Harry. The brothers have not mended their relationship since Harry’s relocation to the U.S.
According to British broadcaster Helena Chard, the private meeting was more about Charles and Harry’s personal bond rather than a formal family attempt. William, focused on the monarchy, has not engaged with Harry.
“This is about Charles’ personal relationship with his son and grandchildren,” Chard explained.
Impact on Future Relations
The strained relationship between the brothers remains. A source stated the relationship is “so broken,” and there’s been no significant contact.
Royal experts note that the secretive nature of the meeting could hinder future reconciliation efforts. Keeping William uninformed might complicate any long-term healing within the family.
“Without William’s involvement, any family reconciliation may just fizzle out,” Chard stated.
