Aaron Judge’s absence has become a central concern for the New York Yankees. As one of the leading power hitters in the game, Judge’s influence heavily impacts whether the Yankees remain contenders for the World Series or fall short.
The team’s pitching roster has also faced significant injuries. As the lineup approaches full strength, manager Aaron Boone faces a favorable dilemma in determining the pitching lineup.
Carlos Rodon recently conducted a side session and is expected to participate in live batting practice soon, according to Boone, via SNY.com. Coupled with Max Fried’s return, the Yankees are on the brink of reuniting their esteemed rotation, featuring Cam Schlittler, Rodon, Fried, and Gerrit Cole.
This development is likely to shift at least one pitcher to the bullpen. So far, eleven pitchers have started games for New York this season, with Schlitter making 21 starts. Ryan Weathers and Will Warren follow in innings pitched as starters, though their outcomes have varied. Weathers shows slightly better statistics with a lower WHIP and more strikeouts per nine innings, but his 3-7 record is a concern.
Warren made his second relief appearance recently in New York’s 2-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Boone might be evaluating the 27-year-old’s suitability for this role.
“Relying on three pitchers over the age of 30 poses a risk of further rotation injuries,” noted an analyst. “Thus, any changes Boone makes might be temporary.”
The evolving circumstances keep the Yankees in a precarious position as they navigate the challenges of maintaining a competitive edge.
