Tennessee Athletics Extend ‘Happy Hour’ Promotion After Successful Game Day

2 hours ago 0

Tennessee’s athletics department is maintaining its ‘Happy Hour’ promotion throughout the 2026 football season. The decision was influenced by the success of the promotion during last weekend’s game against Texas, where President Donald Trump attended in Knoxville.

Due to the president’s visit, security measures increased around Neyland Stadium, leading to anticipated traffic congestion. The athletic department responded by opening the stadium gates an hour earlier at 9 a.m. ET to minimize delays. Fans were encouraged to arrive early, avoiding security lines known to cause late arrivals at events involving presidential attendance.

With the game starting at noon, traffic began building as early as breakfast time. Many fans took advantage of the stadium opening at 8 a.m. ET, remembering past experiences in similar situations.

Alcohol sales were remarkably high during the Texas game as the department offered a 50% discount on concessions and alcohol for the first hour after gates opened. This promotional strategy successfully attracted fans to arrive early, resulting in substantial sales. A spokesperson for the University of Tennessee confirmed that 95,000 units of alcohol were sold, generating $1.3 million in revenue. The first drinks were purchased soon after opening, indicating fans were eager to seize the offer.

Each hour, the stadium sold approximately 13,571 alcoholic beverages, accounting until the game’s conclusion around 4 p.m. ET.

Following the successful outcome, Tennessee athletic director Danny White announced on social media that the promotion will continue for the rest of the season. He expressed gratitude towards the dedicated fans and noted the positive response to the pregame adjustments. Gates will open three hours before kickoff, maintaining the half-priced concessions for the first hour.

White’s announcement stated, “Inspired by Vol Nation’s incredible response to unusual pregame circumstances last week, Happy Hour at Neyland Stadium will be in effect for the remainder of the season! Gates will open three hours early, with half-priced concessions available for the first hour.”

Tennessee is set to host Auburn this Saturday, with gates opening at 12:30 p.m. ET before the 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on ESPN.

Other schools are encouraged to adopt similar promotions, enhancing the college football atmosphere with early-game specials. The concept of half-priced drinks as early as 9 a.m. is becoming a staple for early arrivals.
