Search Underway for Missing American Tourist in Grenada

Elizabeth Waddell, a 44-year-old woman from Cary, North Carolina, is missing while vacationing in Grenada. Last seen at Grand Anse Beach on Wednesday, she has not been heard from since. The Royal Grenada Police Force issued a missing person alert on Thursday.

Elizabeth was staying at Grand Anse, a popular spot in St. George known for its beautiful beaches. Authorities urgently request that fishermen, boat operators, and residents along the southern coast report any sightings. Waddell is described as having a medium build, standing 5-foot-5, with short blond hair.

The State Department is aware of the situation. Elizabeth’s husband, Cailen Waddell, took to Facebook, imploring for assistance. “Liz went missing in the afternoon on Wednesday. I am on my way there now to help search. I expect nothing less than Liz’s safe return. Please send your love, light, thoughts, and prayers our way,” he wrote.

Elizabeth is the founder of Art of Movement Physical Therapy and was on vacation with a friend. According to Amanda Romano-Harmon, a friend of Waddell’s, she went for a swim and did not return. Romano-Harmon told NBC affiliate WRAL-TV that Cailen Waddell was informed by Elizabeth’s friend about her disappearance.

The friend was taking an online class at their Airbnb when Elizabeth went swimming. “She had her swimsuit on and went outside,” Romano-Harmon said. “Their Airbnb had a pool with a view of the bay. Liz was sightseeing from there while her friend was in class. After finishing the class, the friend noticed Elizabeth was absent and found her towel on the pier, indicating she might have gone for a swim.”

Waddell is known as an adventurer who enjoys travel, hiking, and socializing.
