Police now believe three suspects may have been involved in a mass shooting at Seattle Center, resulting in three deaths and four injuries. A 15-year-old has been arrested in connection with the incident. Previously, authorities suggested two gunmen were involved. However, documents now indicate the 15-year-old and an acquaintance, who died at the scene, might have engaged in a gunfight with another unknown suspect. A manhunt for the remaining suspect is ongoing.
According to Seattle Police, the 15-year-old was taken into custody for firearms violations and first-degree assault. Although a court appearance was scheduled, the teen waived the hearing, and no homicide charges have been filed yet. Police believe the shootout took place outside the Seattle Center Armory, affecting bystanders caught in the crossfire.
Investigators suspect the incident stemmed from a conflict between small groups. Authorities confirmed that a 19-year-old man and a 44-year-old man died at the scene despite first responders’ efforts. A 56-year-old woman was critically injured and later passed away at a hospital. Four other individuals suffered injuries, including a 2-year-old boy, a 23-year-old man, a 39-year-old woman, and a 40-year-old woman. The young boy’s condition improved to satisfactory after initially being stable.
Police are determining whether a 27-year-old man, who self-transported to the hospital, was another victim. Harborview Medical Center reported injuries to four patients, affecting the arm, abdomen, and legs. This incident occurred around 6 p.m. as Seattle Center hosted the Bite of Seattle food festival.
Mayor Katie Wilson described the shooting as an act of horrific violence. Families affected are going through their worst moments, attempting to understand how a cultural event ended in such tragedy. The primary responsibilities now include supporting grieving families, caring for the injured, and providing accurate information.
Governor Bob Ferguson stated he is being briefed and State Patrol SWAT officers assisted at the scene. Rep. Pramila Jayapal expressed her horror and extended condolences to the victims’ families. She also appreciated the efforts of officers, first responders, and medical professionals.
King County Executive Girmay Zahilay mentioned the event’s significance, emphasizing the heartbreak and unacceptability of the violence at such a community-focused gathering.
