Trump’s Approval Rating Sees Modest Improvement

3 weeks ago 0

Latest Polling Data

President Donald Trump’s approval rating has seen its highest level in roughly six months, according to Morning Consult Political Intelligence Weekly Tracker. This indicates a slight rebound in public sentiment after months of variable support. The survey showed improvement in Trump’s job approval, pushing his net approval rating to the highest since the beginning of the year. While the rise is modest, it signals a shift in polling trends during a period when his standing faces pressure on major issues.

Morning Consult’s findings align with previous polls, such as a recent RMG Research Poll, which noted a similar uptick in net approval, reaching a near five-month high. Analysts caution that a single poll might not signify a lasting trend due to the volatile nature of presidential approval ratings.

“It seems that one poll is registered voters and the other is ‘U.S. Citizens.’ That would be consistent with the idea that Republicans have a relative advantage in actual voting versus registration,” said Grant Reeher, political science professor at Syracuse University.

What to Know

According to the Morning Consult tracker, Trump’s approval rating stands at 45.2 percent, while the disapproval rating is at 51.9 percent, resulting in a net approval of approximately -7 percent. Compared to a month ago, the net approval improved by around 6 percent. The last similar rating was recorded in January, at -6.5 percent.

The survey involved around 2,200 registered U.S. voters during the week ending July 27, with a 2 percent margin of error. Trump’s favorability rating shows 43 percent favorable versus 53 percent unfavorable, and 4 percent of respondents expressed uncertainty.

Trump secured two net positive approvals on immigration and national security, though he remains underwater on topics like the economy, healthcare, trade, and foreign policy.

Broader Context

Despite recent improvements, Trump’s overall public standing is mixed, with partisan divides persisting. Other national surveys continue to show net-negative approval ratings, highlighting the need for caution in interpreting any single survey.

Polling average observations reveal a nuanced political landscape. Morning Consult’s survey suggests Trump has regained some ground and sees his best approval numbers in months. However, challenges to his popularity remain according to other major pollsters. Upcoming surveys will be key to determining if this improvement leads to a lasting upward trend or is a temporary fluctuation.
