A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the area of Furnessville Road, Pine Township. A man died after a tree fell on him, according to the Porter County Sheriff’s Office. The victim, identified only as a man of Hispanic descent, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The Porter County Coroner’s Office is now handling the case. They are collaborating with law enforcement to confirm the identity of the deceased. Families are generally informed before public disclosure of identities.
At 1:55 p.m., authorities were alerted to the incident on the 200 block of Furnessville Road. Upon arrival, an officer met a witness who shared that three men had approached him requesting assistance. When this witness arrived at the scene, he found the victim trapped under a tree.
The initial attempts by the group of four to lift the tree proved futile. Moreover, an attempt to cut through the tree using a chainsaw did not succeed, as per the sheriff’s report. Before the emergency services could reach, the three men who sought help had left the area.
