Carson Beck Shines in Preseason Debut for Arizona Cardinals

Rookie quarterback Carson Beck had his first chance to impress on the field for the Arizona Cardinals in the preseason Hall of Fame Game. Beck, chosen as the starter, played the first half and led the team on a remarkable 96-yard touchdown drive.

After the game, Beck expressed his excitement about the opportunity. He shared, “From the moment you step onto the field, you’re ready. I was thinking about this chance since last night. I couldn’t sleep, thinking about playing football again. I never take it for granted.” Beck also mentioned his appreciation for the game after going through a tough injury and surgery. “Having gratitude for every opportunity is really where I found faith,” he added.

Beck’s college career saw him playing multiple seasons at Georgia before transferring to Miami, where he helped lead the Hurricanes to the College Football Playoff National Championship. In his preseason debut, Beck, a third-round pick, completed 14 of 19 passes for 188 yards, including that 96-yard drive. He threw a touchdown, was sacked once, and finished with a 125.4 quarterback rating in his half of play.

By halftime, the Cardinals were tied 17-17 with the Panthers. The teams exchanged scores in the second half, but the Panthers sealed their victory with an impressive final drive, winning 33-30. Undrafted rookie quarterback Haynes King scored the decisive touchdown for Carolina.

Despite the loss, Beck’s performance stood out, and he shows potential to become a starter later in the season. Head coach Mike LaFleur praised Beck’s debut, saying, “I’m proud of his performance; it’s a solid first step for him.” LaFleur’s support could be crucial for Beck’s chances to start in the upcoming games, though he currently remains third on the depth chart behind Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II.

The Cardinals’ upcoming preseason schedule includes games against the Las Vegas Raiders on August 13, the Dallas Cowboys on August 22, and a visit to the Green Bay Packers on August 28. The regular season kicks off on September 13 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
