According to The Athletic’s Zac Jackson, Verse “threw multiple punches” during the incident, with both players falling to the ground before teammates intervened. Despite the clash, Verse and Fano returned to the field for the next play.

Spencer Fano, the Browns’ No. 9 draft pick from Utah in the 2026 NFL Draft, was highly rated among offensive tackles in his draft class. Post-incident, fans cheered his performance in pass protection as he effectively countered Verse’s charge.

Cleveland Browns Training Camp Challenges

This altercation marks the team’s second since training camp started, following a previous scuffle on August 1 involving multiple players. Tensions in training camps are often high, as players compete for position and roster spots.

Jared Verse, 25, joined the team through a major trade that sent Myles Garrett, reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, to the Los Angeles Rams. Verse has been a mentor to Fano since his arrival, guiding the rookie in adapting to the team’s dynamics.

“He’s so good,” Fano remarked about Verse, “He’s really good at helping coach me up, especially on my technique. He helped me correct mistakes after practices.”

Season Outlook and Team Dynamics

The Browns aim to improve on their last season’s 5-12 record, a feat that presents challenges. Internal changes extend beyond player altercations to a quarterback struggle. Shedeur Sanders and veteran Deshaun Watson are in competition for the starting position as Watson returns from injury.

Fano is crucial to the Browns’ offensive line, responsible for protecting the team’s quarterback. Verse is pivotal to the Browns’ defense, filling the void left by Garrett.

The Browns commence their preseason with a game against the Chicago Bears on Saturday, August 15, and begin regular season play against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, September 13.
