In Florida, two men have been charged with aggravated battery after a confrontation involving weapons in a Publix parking lot. The incident took place on August 4, involving Everette Krichbaum, 52, and James Gay, 35. The altercation stemmed from a disagreement over a romantic interest, according to police records.
Authorities identified James Gay as the primary aggressor in the dispute occurring in Panama City. Krichbaum was seated in his vehicle when Gay approached him, leading to a verbal altercation. Gay then reportedly returned to his vehicle and retrieved a machete, which he allegedly used to strike Krichbaum in the face.
The tension between the men had escalated over a woman Krichbaum is currently dating, who was previously involved with Gay. Stephanie Marshall, identified as Gay’s current girlfriend, provided this information to Fox News Digital. Marshall, appearing as a witness in the police report, mentioned that Gay and Krichbaum clashed physically, with Krichbaum wielding a hatchet in response.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found Gay with significant injuries, including a deep cut on his pinky finger and a puncture wound on his lower abdomen. Krichbaum also sustained multiple injuries, including lacerations on his hands and face. He reported losing consciousness due to being struck on the head with the machete. Both men were transported to a hospital for treatment.
Following hospital discharge, Gay was arrested and charged with aggravated battery involving a deadly weapon. Historical records show Gay’s previous involvement in a violent incident in 2011, resulting in a homicide conviction. He was sentenced to 15 years but gained early release in 2024.
After Krichbaum’s release from medical care, he was apprehended by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals. He faces charges of aggravated battery causing bodily harm or disability. As of August 7, both men remained in custody at the Bay County Jail.
Attempts to contact the individuals for comment were unsuccessful. Additionally, it remains uncertain if Krichbaum has legal representation, as Gay is reportedly representing himself.
