Phil Collins Criticizes Trump, Talks Unwritten Song about America

1 hour ago 0

Legendary British musician Phil Collins shared his thoughts on President Donald Trump during an interview on “Piers Morgan Uncensored.” The conversation took place just weeks before Collins’ induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist. When asked about Trump, the 75-year-old artist expressed disapproval, labeling the president’s demeanor as “unattractive” and criticizing Trump’s interactions.

“Even when he’s claiming innocence, his manner is off-putting,” Collins said. He highlighted the contrast between Trump and previous U.S. leaders, suggesting past presidents were “eloquent and elegant,” earning respect regardless of political differences. However, Collins argued Trump’s tone led to public disdain. This sentiment sparked wider discussion about musicians using their influence to critique Trump and the United States.

Phil Collins disclosed details about a potential song titled “Fat People with Guns,” which he described as themed around America. This revelation adds to the ongoing discourse on when artists shift their critique from particular leaders to broader commentary on the nation.

Doug Eldridge, from Achilles PR, commented on the situation. “Beyond big city hubs, most Americans prioritize other concerns over politics, except during election periods,” Eldridge stated. He warned that broad negative statements about America might have implications for artists’ commercial appeal. Eldridge advised, “Artists should think carefully before disparaging American culture, as the reaction can be significant.”

On contemplating whether Trump might seek a third term, despite constitutional limits, Collins admitted this possibility wouldn’t shock him. However, he also identified himself as “not a political person.” In August, Trump clarified that constitutional rules against a third term are definitive, stating, “The law is very strong.” The 22nd Amendment prohibits anyone from being elected president more than twice.
