The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) plans to roll out computed tomography (CT) scanning equipment across airport security checkpoints. This move aims to enhance safety by using advanced technology.
CT scanners offer a significant improvement over traditional X-ray machines. They create three-dimensional images of carry-on bag contents. This makes it easier to identify potential threats that older systems might miss. As a result, travelers won’t need to remove items from their bags during the scan.
However, applying this technology universally to all passenger carry-on bags has been questioned. While CT scanners can detect hidden threat items more efficiently, concerns about the practicality and necessity of subjecting every passenger to this process remain.
