Arch Manning is gearing up to be a formidable force in the SEC this fall. As Texas quarterback, Manning entered the 2025 season as one of the most highly anticipated prospects in college football since Trevor Lawrence. His debut against Ohio State last season served as a learning experience, with Manning throwing for 170 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in a 14-7 defeat to the Buckeyes.
It wasn’t until late October that Manning began to shine. He delivered a remarkable performance against Mississippi State, racking up 346 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in a 45-38 overtime victory on October 25. His consistent form in November and Texas’ 41-27 triumph over Michigan in the Citrus Bowl have led some NFL scouts to consider either Manning or Oregon’s Dante Moore as top picks for the 2027 NFL Draft.
SEC coaches are already showing concern over Manning’s potential this season. According to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, one SEC defensive coordinator wishes for Manning to have an “off game” against their team. Another coach mentions Manning’s improved chances for success, especially after Texas secured wide receiver Cam Coleman from the transfer portal. “He can absolutely rip it, like velocity, accuracy,” the coach commented. “He got a little bit out of whack and made some mistakes, and then people were really defending him. It’s going to be really easy this year, because people are gonna have to double Cam Coleman. He’s a real one, and so is Ryan Wingo, so it’s like, you can’t double both of them.”
Manning concluded last season with impressive stats, totaling 3,163 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. On the ground, he added 399 yards and ten touchdowns.
Beyond Coleman, Texas has strengthened its lineup by acquiring running back Hollywood Smothers through the transfer portal and improving the offensive line, addressing previous issues for the Longhorns. With these enhancements, Manning is poised to be the leading quarterback in the SEC, and Texas stands strong as a contender for the conference title.
