Lindsay Clancy Trial Resumes with Psychiatric Nurse’s Cross-Examination

Testimony in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial in Massachusetts continues on Tuesday. The cross-examination of Julie Paul, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, is scheduled. Paul had a brief meeting with Clancy in November 2022.

Lindsay Clancy, 35, faces charges of first-degree murder for the deaths of her three children, aged 5, 3, and eight months, in Duxbury on January 24, 2023. Clancy has pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors, led by Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague, argue Clancy planned the murders. Her attorney, Kevin Reddington, claims she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder, asserting she shouldn’t be held criminally responsible.

Julie Paul testified as the 61st witness for the prosecution on Monday afternoon. She stated she prescribed psychiatric drugs to Clancy and that Clancy never mentioned having thoughts of harming herself or her children. Paul will return to the stand Tuesday morning for further questioning.

Judge William Sullivan announced discussions with the attorneys in the case, which might delay the testimony’s 9 a.m. start.

If convicted, Clancy faces life in prison without parole. Should the jury decide she was not criminally responsible, she would be committed to a state psychiatric hospital.
