A recent court ruling requires the Kennedy Center to cover over $250,000 in legal expenses for jazz musician Chuck Redd. This decision came after Redd withdrew from a performance upon the venue’s decision to rename the building in honor of President Donald Trump.
On Monday, D.C. Superior Court Judge Tanya Jones Bosier mandated that the Kennedy Center pay $252,000 in legal fees and expenses for Redd’s lawyers. Redd, a long-time performer at the center’s annual Christmas Eve concert, had his lawsuit previously dismissed by the court in June.
The Kennedy Center, located in Washington, had faced legal action following its controversial board decision, impacting relationships with some artists. The ruling highlights ongoing tensions between the venue and performers over the naming rights.
