White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will step down at the end of the month. President Trump announced her departure on Wednesday. Leavitt recently returned from maternity leave after having her second child in May.
Leavitt, 28, is the youngest person to have served in this role. She emerged as a prominent advocate for the “Make America Great Again” movement during her tenure. President Trump praised her as a “most trusted aide” in a social media post.
Trump stated, “She will be departing her role at the end of the month so she can spend more time with her beautiful young children and family. A decision I totally understand and respect!”
Leavitt has a 2-year-old son and gave birth to a daughter earlier this year. She spoke candidly about her decision to resign, citing her desire to focus on her family as the primary reason.
“Since returning after my daughter’s birth, I feel that I cannot be the best mom to my two young children while meeting the demands of the Press Secretary role,” she shared on social media.
President Trump has not yet mentioned who will succeed Leavitt as Press Secretary. Leavitt will continue to influence the Republican Party as a top outside adviser.
