Fever Coach Stephanie White Faces Criticism Post Incident

During a recent game, Chicago Sky’s DiJonai Carrington committed a severe foul on Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham, leading to Carrington’s ejection. This incident sparked various reactions, notably involving Fever’s coach Stephanie White.

In the aftermath, pundits scrutinized Cunningham instead of Carrington. Coach White maintained silence during these discussions, remaining noncommittal in related situations concerning player Caitlin Clark. However, before a game against the New York Liberty, White chose to address the media directly.

This isn’t necessarily for those people that are in this room. This is more for an online community that’s trying to create narratives that simply don’t exist.

After the incident, criticism surfaced regarding White’s apparent inaction. Sophie Cunningham and White were involved in a game against Toronto Tempo at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, where White emphasized her loyalty to her players.

White remarked on Saturday’s game, claiming ignorance of the foul due to focusing on a press conference. She later judged the play as egregious after reviewing it on replay.

White faced further criticism for a perceived lack of defense for Cunningham, as media backlash followed the foul. White defended her team relationships, stressing her support.
