Fifteen individuals were arrested and seven vehicles were impounded following police intervention in a street takeover on Long Island. This event involved reckless driving activities, reported early Saturday as stated by authorities.

The Suffolk County Police Department’s Street Takeover Task Force anticipated the illegal gathering through intelligence and social media insights prior to Friday night, August 14.

Authorities discovered the group planned to orchestrate a takeover within Suffolk County, spanning about 1,000 square miles across eastern Long Island. Police monitored the group’s movements across various locations overnight.

Reckless Driving Activities

Officials reported that drivers engaged in donuts and burnouts while spectators gathered during the takeover in Medford, New York, early Saturday, August 15, 2026. Initial attempts to gather at Commack Road and Sunrise Highway in Islip were thwarted. Another gathering near Route 112 and Main Street in Patchogue was also disrupted.

Police successfully intercepted the crowd around 12:50 a.m. Saturday near Woodside Avenue and Sawgrass Drive in Medford. Vehicles had effectively blocked the roadway, engaging in dangerous activities.

Police Intervention and Arrests

The Street Takeover Task Force took swift action, resulting in the arrest of 15 individuals and the impounding of seven vehicles, as well as issuing several traffic citations. Those apprehended were from various Long Island and New York City communities.

Fourteen of the fifteen suspects faced charges for both participating in and spectating an unlawful speed contest. This strong response comes weeks after another significant street takeover in Suffolk County.

Previous Incidents

The earlier incident involved a large group of ATVs, dirt bikes, and motorcycles disrupting traffic in Hauppauge and Brentwood. This prompted law enforcement to arrest three individuals and impound ten vehicles.

This recent crackdown reflects an ongoing response to street takeovers impacting the region. Law enforcement continues to manage and deter these illegal gatherings effectively.
