Karoline Leavitt is stepping down from her role as White House press secretary, but she continues to have significant influence. As she departs, Leavitt is providing President Donald Trump with advice on selecting her successor.
In her last interview as press secretary, Leavitt shared with ‘Fox & Friends’ that she has been discussing potential replacements with Trump.
“Of course, we’ve spoken about it,” she said.
Leavitt emphasized the high level of interest in the position, noting many capable candidates have applied.
Although she didn’t mention specific individuals, she has advised Trump on the traits necessary for a successful press secretary and plans to stay involved throughout the selection process.
After nearly 20 months of service, Leavitt emphasized one vital quality: complete trust from the president.
“Ultimately, it has to be his decision to make. [The] press secretary and the president spend a lot of time together. It has to be someone he trusts fully,” she said.
Leavitt expressed confidence that Trump would select the right person, and she remains available to assist if needed.
Reflecting on her tenure, Leavitt described her departure as “bittersweet.” She plans to devote more time to her family, which includes two young children.
“It’s bitter because I’m leaving a job that I love so very much […] It’s been the honor and blessing of a lifetime,” she added.
Leavitt praised Trump not only for offering her the role but for his supportive nature as both a boss and friend. She expressed gratitude for his understanding during her decision to leave the White House.
