Meghan Markle’s Return to the UK: A Complex Reunion

1 month ago 0

Meghan Markle is returning to the United Kingdom with a level of independence not seen during her time as a working royal. Experts suggest this new arrangement might challenge the boundaries maintained by Buckingham Palace.

Markle, 45, and Prince Harry, 41, recently returned to the UK with their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5. Although they remain private non-working royals, they plan to create a private residence outside London while keeping their home in Montecito, California. Meghan’s potential to engage in media, business, and public projects from the UK could generate friction with the royal institution.

The nightmare for the Palace is that they can’t be controlled, commented royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams.

Host Kinsey Schofield of Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered said that as private citizens, the couple no longer represents King Charles in official capacities. Therefore, Buckingham Palace lacks control over their public and commercial engagements.

Despite their break from royal duties, Harry is still the King’s son and Meghan retains her Duchess title, which keeps them linked to the monarchy. This connection fuels public interest in their activities.

Their new life in the UK differs from Markle’s previous role as a working royal, where palace staff directed her public image. She returns with her career and support network, signaling a fresh approach.

Royal expert Schofield noted the lack of palace protection as a trade-off for Markle’s newfound freedom. While the palace cannot dictate their actions, it still controls access to royal events and locations, providing leverage.

Concerns arise over potential scheduling conflicts with Royal Family engagements. Expert Fitzwilliams highlighted that royal events are planned in advance, suggesting possible clashing headlines between official duties and the Sussexes’ activities.

Past tensions, such as the Sussexes’ Oprah interview and Harry’s memoir, add complexity to their return. British broadcaster Helena Chard emphasized the need for clear guidelines to define the Sussexes’ access to royal functions.

According to insider sources, the Sussexes’ move back aims to connect their children with Harry’s heritage, including visits with Charles at Highgrove House and Althorp, Diana’s resting place.

Not all predict immediate discord. Royal broadcaster Ian Pelham Turner believes Meghan may initially adopt a cautious approach, mirroring Kate Middleton’s decorum.

Meghan’s empathetic nature and intelligent perspectives could benefit various UK communities, according to Turner. He believes she may seize this chance to prove critics wrong and restore her value to the Royal Family.
