‘Wheel of Fortune’ announcer Jim Thornton faces suspension following allegations related to an American Airlines flight. A spokesperson from Sony Pictures Television Studios confirmed the suspension, stating an investigation is underway.

Thornton, who joined the show as an announcer in 2011, was involved in an incident during a flight in May. As reported by TMZ, a passenger claimed there was concerning behavior, resulting in law enforcement meeting the flight at Los Angeles International Airport.

American Airlines addressed the event, explaining, “On May 14, American Airlines Flight 1276 was met by law enforcement upon arrival at Los Angeles International Airport following concerns reported by a customer onboard.” According to reports, Thornton was not detained after the flight.

Thornton succeeded Charlie O’Donnell, the revered announcer of ‘Wheel of Fortune,’ after O’Donnell’s passing in 2010. Before his role on ‘Wheel of Fortune,’ Thornton lent his voice to programs like ‘Celebrity Death Match,’ ‘The Cleveland Show,’ and Pixar’s ‘Monsters, Inc.’ His broadcasting career also spans positions on ‘The Price is Right,’ ‘Jeopardy!’, and work at KNX 1070 Newsradio since 1985.

Through his career, Thornton has earned significant recognition, including the Edward R. Murrow award and an Emmy. This ongoing investigation pauses his contributions to ‘Wheel of Fortune’ as the show considers recasting options.
