An array of respiratory viruses like influenza, covid-19, and RSV are poised to put hundreds of thousands in hospitals as fall approaches. As a new season looms, Americans are receiving important vaccine guidance in a new manner this year.
A coalition comprising some of the foremost medical groups in the United States is now leading the charge. Previously, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and its vaccine advisory committee fulfilled this role, regularly issuing public health guidance.
However, the advisory committee’s efforts have been disrupted following a legal ruling. A federal judge determined in March that Health Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. had made unlawful modifications to vaccine policy and reformed the committee improperly.
In response, major medical organizations have come together to ensure that Americans continue to receive crucial and comprehensive seasonal vaccine recommendations to protect public health.
