A police-involved shooting in downtown Minneapolis resulted in several injuries, including two police officers, according to authorities. The Minneapolis Police Department reported on Wednesday that officers responded to an incident on Thursday afternoon near 15 E. Grant St., where the shooting took place. The scene remained active following the incident.
KSTP-TV in St. Paul, citing law enforcement and City Hall sources, reported that multiple civilians were killed after at least six people, including two Minneapolis police officers, were shot. The network stated that one officer was hit in the stomach and another in the leg. As of 5:39 p.m. local time, one of the injured officers was undergoing surgery, while the injuries sustained by the second officer were not life-threatening. By 6 p.m. local time, officials had not publicly confirmed the reported fatalities or the conditions of all victims.
Video shared on social media depicted heavily armed police officers aiming rifles at an apartment tower near the Minneapolis Convention Center. Authorities urged residents to avoid the nearby Loring Park neighborhood as the active law enforcement response continued in one of the city’s most densely populated areas.
Federal, Minnesota Officials React to Minneapolis Shooting
FBI Director Kash Patel posted on X, expressing awareness of the shooting involving law enforcement and stating that FBI personnel were responding to offer resources to assist local authorities.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in St. Paul also posted on X, indicating that ATF special agents were responding to reports of an active shooter situation near East Grant St. and South Marquette in downtown Minneapolis.
Governor Tim Walz posted on X, stating that his public safety team was responding to the downtown Minneapolis shooting. He mentioned that state officials were on the ground supporting local law enforcement and pledged to share more information as it became available. In a subsequent post, Walz expressed gratitude for law enforcement’s efforts to ensure safety in downtown Minneapolis and shared that Minnesota was praying for first responders.
Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth wrote on X, acknowledging reports of the shooting and expressing prayers for the victims. She also thanked the law enforcement officers for their tremendous response.
